[One Day One] Borrowed Opinions

We collect opinions from families, friends, workplaces, algorithms, and people who speak with impressive certainty. Over time, some of those opinions begin sounding like our own voice.

There is nothing wrong with learning from others. The useful question is whether we have examined what we inherited. Do we actually dislike the thing, or have we repeated the joke about it for years? Is that career, neighborhood, hobby, or person truly not for us, or did someone else decide before we looked?

You do not need to challenge every belief before breakfast. Pick one small preference or assumption and inspect it with curiosity. Try the food again. Listen to the music without commentary. Read beyond the headline. Growing is not only adding new ideas. Sometimes it is returning borrowed ones that no longer fit.

Today’s Prompt

Which opinion or preference might be worth examining as if you were meeting it for the first time?
