[One Day One] Take the Long Way

Navigation apps are very good at finding the fastest route. They do not care whether the slower road has trees, whether you pass the place that sells good cider, or whether ten extra minutes might help your mind settle.

Efficiency is valuable, especially when the day is crowded. Still, turning every movement into a race can make life feel like one long attempt to arrive somewhere else. Sometimes the longer route gives us something the shortest route cannot: a conversation, a view, a memory, or simply a few minutes without another demand.

You do not need to become deliberately inconvenient. Just remember that fastest and best are not always synonyms. A walk without tracking it, a meal that takes time, or a drive chosen for the scenery can return part of the day to you. Not every minute has to prove it was used efficiently.

Today’s Prompt

Where might the slower option give you something the fastest one cannot?
