[One Day One] The Friend Who Sends the Meme

Some people say, “I am thinking about you.” Others send a strangely specific meme at 10:47 p.m. with no explanation. Both may be forms of affection.

We can miss care when it arrives in packaging we were not expecting. One person asks questions. Another fixes something. Someone remembers your usual order. Someone else invites you along without making a production of it. Their language may not be your language, but the message can still be there.

This does not mean every disappointing relationship should be explained away. It means connection becomes richer when we learn to recognize more than one form of kindness. Pay attention today to the small signals people use. The shared joke, the extra chair, the link sent because “this made me think of you” may be someone’s way of saying you matter.

Today’s Prompt
