[One Day One] Use the Good Mug

Many homes have a quiet museum of things being saved for the right occasion. The good candles remain unlit. The nice notebook waits for thoughts important enough to deserve it. A favorite shirt stays in the closet because today is only a regular day.

The problem is that regular days make up most of a life. If something is too good for Tuesday, it may spend years waiting for a celebration that never quite qualifies. Meanwhile, we drink from the chipped mug and save the one that makes us smile.

Using what you love is not wasteful. It is the reason the thing exists. Light the candle during dinner. Write the grocery list on the first page. Wear the shoes somewhere unremarkable. You do not need to turn today into a grand event. You can simply stop requiring an event before allowing yourself a small pleasure.

Today’s Prompt

What have you been saving that could make an ordinary day a little better?
